Encaustic painting involves using heated beeswax & damar resin to which coloured pigments, oil paint, or encaustic paint is added. The molten medium is then applied to a solid & absorbant substrate– usually a wooden panel, although canvas and other materials can be used. It is necessary to fuse each layer with a heat source– irons, & heat guns are commonly used.
I started painting in encaustic 4 years ago with a group of artists who rented a room together once a month at The Elora Centre for the Arts. I was more formally introduced to the possibilities of the medium 3 years ago when I took a class with Andrea Bird at ECFTA…

-In June 2009 attendee at the “3rd Annual Encaustic Conference” in Beverley, MA. This summer, June 2011, I will be attending/ vending at the The 5th International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, MA.
-Participant in a 12 person group encaustic show “The Whole Ball of Wax”, Sept 2010 at Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts, Toronto (curated by Andrea Bird & Lisa Beth Glassman).
-Member of “The Harris Collective” ECFTA, since 2009.
- Participant in the Elora Fergus Studio Tour September 24th & 25th and October 1st & 2nd 2011, 10-5pm daily.
Contemporary, and displaying a simple elegance, my encaustic pieces combine collage, photographic, & sculptural elements in a unique contemplative style… my work can currently be seen in the Harris Collective at the ECFTA, or at my studio/ gallery in Fergus ON, tues-sat 10am-5pm/ or after hours by appointment.
